Hello friend of Friends of Petrified Forest National Park,
My name is Doug Lentz and I am the new Chair of the Friends of Petrified Forest National Park. I retired after 38 years with the National Park Service and one of my last assignments was Acting Superintendent of Petrified Forest National Park, what an honor.
I fell in love with the park: the petrified wood, ancestral Puebloan people left evidence of their time at the Park including, but not limited to, thousands of petroglyphs; and the paleontology is world class, the Late Triassic Period. A new species of shark was discovered while I was there, WOW; and wildlife at the Park.
Friends of Petrified Forest National Park is a 501(c)(3) non-profit fundraising organization (EIN 46-5506774), created in 2014 we work hand in hand with the National Park Service (NPS) to help preserve, protect and maintain the natural and cultural resources of the Petrified Forest National Park.
We have purchased scientific equipment and a 3D printer so researchers can do their work and make copies of artifacts and fossils to share with school groups and visitors. We also fund park interns that do invaluable work in advancing the scientific and educational mission of the Park while gaining experience in those fields to further their careers. The NPS budget is being cut and they need our help more than ever.
But we are a small organization and need to hire an Executive Director to develop a membership base, seek out a corporate sponsor, and much more to take us to the next level of supporting the Park.
I, we, would sincerely appreciate a donation to enhance our support of, in my opinion, one of the greatest National Parks America has, and I’ve worked in a lot of them, including Yellowstone.
