Building on its successful 2021 campaign to purchase the Park a 3-D scanner, Friends of Petrified Forest National Park (Friends) this year has set its sights on upgrading PEFO’s popular Museum Demonstration Lab.
Per requests from Park personnel, the Friends will raise funds to equip the lab with a full-duplex audio intercom system and to purchase a stereomicroscope for a second workstation. You can participate in these fundraising projects by mailing a check to Friends of PEFO, Box 2217, Petrified Forest AZ, 86028-2217, or online by clicking the button below.
JBL Professional two-way loudspeakers will be the heart of the intercom system. Located inside the lab where fossil preparators work and outside where visitors observe, these speakers will permit high-quality hands-free back and forth communication between staff and the public. The cost of speakers, accessories, and installation will be $11,439. (Audio system quote – PDF 267 kb)
The Demonstration Lab currently has a single workstation equipped with a high-quality stereo microscope. An additional microscope will allow the setting up of a second station thus increasing opportunities for public interaction. A used Leica MZ-6 (or similar Leica model) costs about $3,000.
Donate now and support Petrified Forest’s continuing efforts to make the park’s wonderful resources accessible to the public. By clicking the button below, you can choose between the Demonstration Lab Audio System, Demonstration Lab Microscope, or Greatest Need.
